Fortnite: Battle Royale PS4, Xbox One, PC and Mobile Game
"The official Fortnite SHAREfactory theme is now available on PS4!" reads an Epic tweet.
"Get started by visiting the PlayStation Store from your PS4. Find the Fortnite SHAREfactory Theme under SHAREfactory in the Apps section of the store."
The new Sharefactory theme features one intro, one outro, a new title clip, nine different backgrounds, three transitions, 12 stickers and six fonts.
Fans can pick up the content by visiting the online PlayStation shop, where the theme is free of charge.
The only drawback is that the theme can only be used with the Sharefactory app, and not on the PS4 home screen.
For many players, however, the most important information concerns the eventual Android release date. Previously all Epic had given us was that it would arrive "in the coming months" following the iOS release, but today Epic reaffirmed a commitment to bringing Fortnite to Android and offered a little more specificity:
"We are targeting this summer for the release. We know many of you are excited for this release, and we promise that when we have more information to share, you’ll hear it from us first."
Note that a target is just that -- a target, not a promise. So this makes it much more likely that the game will come out int the summer months, but leaves the window open to delays. There are plenty of issues when it comes to implementing a game like Fortnite on Android, chief among them the wide-ranging and fragmented ecosystem that contains many more devices than the relatively constrained world of iOS. Cheating is also a problem, and it will be much easier for players to use a mouse and keyboard through all sorts of methods, gaining a huge advantage over players using a touchscreen.
If I were Epic, I would never say never. I could see the potential in a monetization path where perhaps instead of mixing and matching all the current skins, you create a separate, custom pool of heads/arms/legs/chests/accessories that could go on a “blank” character and allow for deeper customization. You could kill two birds with one stone this way. You could still sell full skins most of the time, but also with a “custom” male and female character, you could sell bits and pieces for unique combinations that players could have a lot of fun experimenting with.
